No sooner had we entered the diesel - electric submarine, I was astonished with technical complexity of the machinery. One of the similar subs equipped with nuclear torpedoes did dodge the whole American fleet during the Cuban crisis. That sub also was a diesel - electric one, so the captain had to surface from time to time to recharge the batteries. Thus, you guys have a unique opportunity to feel how tough it was to survive inside the sub using the accumulator to move under the surface of the sea without a chance to surface safely. Arguably one of Moscow’s most unusual museums, this one sits in a dry-docked Tango-class submarine B-396. It was launched in 1980, decommissioned in 1998 and turned into a museum in 2006. Now you can take a guided tour of all submarine compartments and learn about the Soviet/Russian Submarine Navy.
Being a marine engineer it is a fascinating feeling to get inside such a mighty machinery. This is one of the best initiatives taken by the Russian government to put submarine for display. Although one can see only the accomodation area and weapons bay. The 2/3 of the part below this deck is not ooen. The central part which is converted to museum is an amazing idea and tribute to the sailors. Overall I will prefer anyone visiting Moscow to have a look at this and tick your checkbox of dreams.
